We take pride in the great relationships we foster here at Green Hills Office Suites. This month, we are highlighting Jessica Garcia. She is the Membership and Registration Coordinator for Music Business Association. Originally from Oregon, she grew up about an hour south of Portland. She lived in a small town until she relocated to Los Angeles at 27 years old. Jessica worked as a sales assistant for a medical device company, but one of her favorite things to do was to listen to live music. During her time in LA, she met and befriended many people in the entertainment industry.
However, her time in LA was short, and she ended up back in the North West. Luckily, she remained in the music scene, even volunteering at shows when she could. She became friends with acoustic soul artist, Amber Sweenie. At the time, Amber needed help with booking and marketing. Jessica began working with her, and they eventually started traveling across the US together.
They attended many networking events through the Recording Academy and even the Grammys! Through all the networking taking place, Jessica met the amazing Portia Sabin who has become one of her biggest professional influences today. Portia is the President of the Music Business Association and hired her on with her company at the end of 2019.
Music Business Association is a membership-based, B2B company. They facilitate the relationships between company a and company b. Their claim to fame is the big conference they host every year in May. The last two years, they were not able to organize the event because of the coronavirus pandemic, so they switched to having virtual events. This allowed them to create more interactive workshops and webinars. In fact, the pandemic helped the company in a tremendous way, and they are continuing to grow each day.
Jessica’s advice for anyone wanting to get into the entertainment industry would be to volunteer wherever you can. Find an artist or an organization that you like and put yourself out there. You never know who you will meet and where life may take you!
