Faces of Nashville with Robb Bigelow

June 28, 2019

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission estimated that 75 percent of all workplace harassment incidents go unreported altogether.  Many go unreported due to fears.  Estimates show that 75 percent of those who report harassment in the workplace face some sort of retaliation.

Another recent survey done by the EEOC on workplace harassment found that “anywhere from 25% to 85% of women report having experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.”  The statistics are quite alarming and if you find yourself in this position, you may feel lost and unsure of your options.

We are happy to have an expert in this field here at Green Hills Office Suites and this month we sat down with Robb Bigelow of Bigelow Legal P.C. to learn more about his practice, what people who are harassed at work can do about it and why he chose Green Hills Office Suites.

Tell me a little bit about your business?

I practice Plaintiffs Employment Law. I represent folks who have been discriminated against or harassed in the workplace. I also do a fair amount of severance package work and executive non-compete agreements.

How did you discover and begin your journey with this career?

I used to work for a giant law firm and became a partner there, but I realized that my heart is really with helping employees who have been wronged and representing all the “Davids” in the fight against Goliath.

What should people do who feel discriminated against or harassed at work?

People who feel like they are being discriminated against or harassed at work should document everything, with dates and times, and seek legal counsel immediately.  Do not quit your job unless you are in mental or physical danger.  You should speak to a Plaintiffs Employment Lawyer as soon as possible and they can guide you in the best path to avoid further harm.

What excites you the most about being an attorney?

I really enjoy helping to bring meaningful change to people’s lives. Fighting for their rights is fulfilling for me.

What advice do you have for other attorneys looking to start their own practice?

It’s important to be excited about going out on your own and it can be very rewarding. Learn as much as you can and educate yourself before jumping into your own practice.  I was ready to take the jump into my own practice and leave the firm so that I could follow my true passion of helping people get justice.

What advice do you have for someone who may be interested in law but may not know where to start?

I would recommend starting with an internship so that you can get a feel for what really happens behind the scenes. I’m so glad I did that because I started down a path that I really thought would be exciting and challenging, in the field of entertainment law. I am naturally attracted to the entertainment field in general. But, after a short period of internship with an entertainment firm, I quickly realized that was not the type of practice for me.

Why did you choose Green Hills Office Suites? How has your experience with GHOS been thus far?

My experience has been great! I chose Green Hills Office Suites because of the convenient location, the included amenities, and because I really like the community here. I also love the staff here, and all the support they give me as a sole practitioner.
