The growth in Nashville continues to be strong. Just this year, Nashville has seen investments from companies such as Amazon, Smile Direct Club, Alliance Bernstein and EY equating to over 8,000 new jobs and $539 million dollars. The numbers are staggering and there seems to be no slowdown in sight.
There’s no doubt, it’s a great time to be in the commercial real estate market. This month we enjoyed chatting with Lorna Doone Archer from State Street Group to learn about her company’s role in commercial real estate, her background and why she chose Green Hills Office Suites.
Tell me a little bit about your business?
Since 1972, State Street Group has invested in a wide variety of properties including, industrial, office, retail, self-storage, multi-family communities and more – always striving to offer the highest level of service to its customers and a quality work environment for its employees. We have approximately 45 employees in Mississippi and three in Nashville, TN.
The Nashville office includes John Ditto, President; Edward Waud, Vice President and me. I am the property manager for our Nashville properties. The Nashville portfolio consists of about a million square feet of industrial property.
Do you anticipate the Nashville commercial real estate market to stay strong?
I have full confidence that the current condition of the real estate market will continue to be as strong and robust as ever, even getting better for the next several years. “It’s BOOMING!!”
How did you discover and begin your journey with this career?
I enjoyed a career as a litigation paralegal for many years with a large law firm in Jackson Mississippi. However, I decided it was time for a change. I started working for State Street Group in Mississippi and served as the office administrator for the Jackson office. I moved with State Street Group last year to become the Nashville property manager. It has been a great transition. Nashville is a great city!
What excites you the most about your career?
I love working with people and it has been a privilege to meet so many nice folks through my work. It is also a lot of fun to be involved with Nashville’s booming real estate market.
What advice do you have for someone who may be interested in your career but may not know where to start?
Networking is always a great way to start. Get involved in things that will help you meet the people in this field, and then you must prove yourself.
When not working; what do you do to unwind?
I really enjoy listening to music and like all kinds. Boy, am I in the right place to be for fabulous music! I also enjoy taking walks in my neighborhood in the evenings, especially now with all the flowers and trees in full bloom!
