As we move into Spring, the busiest time of the year for real estate transactions; it was the perfect time to meet with Matthew Noggle of Gardner Title & Escrow and learn about his company, how he got started in the industry, gain some helpful advice and find out why he chose Green Hills Office Suites.
Tell us a little bit about your business?
Gardner Title & Escrow is an attorney owned and operated real estate title and escrow company, facilitating residential and commercial real estate transactions. We offer professional assistance with all real estate transactions and title services for purchase and sale transactions, as well as the refinance of commercial and consumer loans.
In addition, I provide legal representation to owners, investors, and businesses for acquisitions and dispositions of real estate, financing, and leasing matters.
How did you discover and begin your career?
I earned my JD from Emory University School of Law and started my legal career as an associate with Waller Lansden in the commercial real estate practice group. After a stint as the Real Estate Director for J. Alexander’s, LLC, I moved back to law in the commercial real estate practice group at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to run my own business. After researching numerous business opportunities ranging from online retail to restaurateur, I realized that I already had the perfect skill set and experience to open my own title company. That, combined with a booming Nashville economy, led me to where I am today. I am one year in and growing quickly.
What excites you the most about your career?
I like that I learn something new every day. There is no time to simply be comfortable as a small business owner. I wear many hats, lawyer, title processor, escrow officer, HR director, IT consultant, bookkeeper; you name it and I do it.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs looking to break out and start their own business? What inspired you to take that leap?
Don’t wait! You will never know everything, and the best place to learn is on the job. I wish I had made the decision to start my own company five years earlier. I spoke with peers who had left large law firm practices and every single one of them told me how glad they were to have made the transition. I feel the same way.
What advice do you have for someone who may be interested in your career but may not know where to start?
Ask questions. Meet with people who are in the industry, they will be happy to share their experiences. Make a detailed business plan, the more detailed the better. That will help show you where the gaps in your knowledge lie and what you need to ask or research.
Why did you choose Green Hills Office Suites? How has your experience been thus far?
I choose Green Hills Office Suites for a number of reasons, excellent facilities and conference space for closings, competitive gross rent, and the professional staff always willing to assist. However, the primary factor is the great location. Convenient to Green Hills and Brentwood, and less than a mile from my house! One of the biggest benefits of starting my own business is eliminating my daily commute downtown and no more structured parking.
