5 Reasons Why It’s Better to Work Around People

There’s something special about shared workspaces; there’s a reason (or several of them) why coworking spaces have significantly grown in popularity over the past couple of years. It’s not just that they’re carefully designed and strategically located; it’s the fact that there’s a human factor about them that makes them irresistible to so many individuals.

But what is it about shared workspaces that makes them so great? If you ask us, it’s the human factor; these spaces are constantly buzzing with activity. And although you might find this to be distracting, it’s not…at least not entirely. In fact, working around people has several benefits and advantages.

1. It helps battle loneliness

One of the greatest benefits of working around other people is that individuals get a sense of togetherness even when they’re not working on the same projects. Loneliness is one of the main challenges many remote and home workers struggle with and simply having people around you (even if you’re not directly interacting with them) can help combat these feelings. Simply by being around others, you get a sense of belonging, a sense of community.

2. It fosters creativity

Working around others means you have access to other people’s minds, thoughts, and ideas. This can often lead to new ideas and sparks of creativity that would otherwise take longer or not happen at all. Moreover, brainstorming sessions a lot more efficient and successful when there are several people participating in them.

3. It facilitates collaboration

By collaboration we don’t necessarily mean that you work on a project together, we also mean the fact that you might bump into someone that could have the right answer for a challenge or problem you are currently facing or vice versa.

4. You’ll be inspired to work more

When you’re surrounded by other people who are working, you’ll be inspired and driven to work yourself. It’s quite easy to make excuses for oneself, so seeing others being productive makes it harder to make an excuse. Also, since people are busy working, it’ll discourage your or others from interrupting those who are hard at work, meaning you’ll dedicate that time to working on your to-do list or projects.

5. It’ll improve your work life balance

When you’re alone, it’s easy to lose track of time and get lost in work. Being around others will force you to take a break, get out of your chair, and interact with others. This can improve your work-life balance, which can help prevent stress and burnout.
