When it comes to getting new customers, there’s nothing more powerful than word of mouth. Thanks to the internet and social media platforms, every person’s voice has been amplified and everyone can have a say about a product, service, or event.
In today’s digital era, online reviews are the word of mouth recommendations from 20+ years ago. Which is why online reviews have become a key marketing tool for business large and small. Think about it, what’s the first thing that people do when they are thinking about purchasing a new product or service? They Google it–or search it in any other search engine.
Yet, they won’t just go to your website and read what you have to offer; they will look to the greater online community to decide whether or not your product or service is worth the investment. And the curious thing is that, even though they don’t know the person that reviewed you, they will take their comments as a personal recommendation.
It’s all about social proof; and it can make or break your business.
To get online reviews, you need to make it easy for people to leave them. Keep in mind that you can’t please everyone, and most businesses are at some point or another faced with negative reviews. Should this be the case, don’t ignore and don’t delete the review; instead reply to it and share how you plan to address the situation to improve or fix the negative experience of a user.
More often than not, you’ll be surprised at how companies that engage with their negative reviewers get a new, positive review in return, or the original reviewer deletes the negative comments.
Last but not least, if there’s something worse than a negative review, it’s no reviews at all. Reviews not only give businesses social proof, but they also provide them provide with credibility.
